Our institution offers educational services appropriate to primary and secondary school level for approximately 165 children with severe and moderate intellectual disability, learning difficulties, movement problems and autism spectrum disorders. With our team of 34 support teachers, we also reach the educational needs of approximately 350 children with learning difficulties included in mainstream schools, education at home for those children for whom presence in the classroom is not possible and education for hospitalized children. Our complex team of 108 specialists includes special education teachers, teachers and instructors, psychologists, sport, music, art and religion teachers, speech therapists, physiotherapists and support teachers.

 

Most of our pupils live in Cluj-Napoca, one of the most important cities in Romania. More than 35% of the pupils come from socially disadvantaged family environments. We appreciate as challenging the fact that 20% of the school students come from Children Placement Centre. About 10 % of our pupils belong to the Roma minority and besides Romanian students we also educate children belonging to the Hungarian minority. The 1999 was the year when our school came out as the first educational institution in Transylvania offering educational services to students with autism spectrum disorders. We consider that we have successfully met this important challenge: we proudly point out that 30% of our current school population consists of students with autism spectrum disorders. For all our students we offer special educational services such as speech therapy, physiotherapy, psycho-motor therapy, hydrotherapy, hippo-therapy, therapy using Optimusic system, animal assisted therapy, occupational therapy and drama/art-therapy, instrumental enrichment, ABA, TEACH, PECS, TOMATIS.

 

To achieve our goals we have partnerships with Governmental institutions (Ministry of National Education, Cluj County School Inspectorate, Cluj County Council), Babes-Bolyai University, Non-governamental institutions, such as Romanian Special Education Teachers Association, Autism Transilvania Association (for children with ASD in 2013 we developed a partnership) with other educational institutions from Europe (partners from our previous projects with whom we continue our collaboration).
